  About Dr. Eduardo Reyes

I have lived in the Chula Vista community for over 35 years.  I am a product of public education and I understand the value and impact that having the right education can have on individuals and on future generations.   Teachers have provided me with the support and guidance I needed to continue my educational path.   This community has also been the home of my daughters and siblings.  I am grateful for everything this city has done for my family and for the opportunities that the school system has provided me.  I want to ensure that the quality of education continues to support students and parents.

I have over 24 years of experience in the educational field working as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal. I have a genuine care about student success, working teacher conditions, and working collaborative with all stakeholders, which encompass students, parents, teachers, district, and community.  I am a firm believer that ALL students can thrive if provided the right opportunities to develop their individual potential.

During my last four years as a board member at CVESD, I have always advocated for our students and our schools.   I have pushed for earlier interventions and more services for our special education students, advocated and supported our visual and performing arts programs, been a watchdog over the finances of the district, strong supporter of teachers and support staff, and promoted ways to increase parent participation and advocacy.   I believe in including all stakeholders in the decision-making process; all stakeholders are equally important in the educational path of our students.

Below are some of the accomplishments CVESD has had in during my tenure:

  • Received "Pioneer Award" from  South County Economic Development Council
  • Partnered with the San Diego Youth Symphony and Conservatory to initiate the Community Opus Project, which was the beginning in bringing music education back into classrooms.

  • CVESD has earned the largest number of Gold and Silver recognitions by the National Center for Urban School Transformation, which honors schools for increases in student achievement among target groups such as African American, Hispanic, and English Learner students.
  • Three schools were officially recognized this March as California Distinguished Schools.
  • District was recently named San Diego County’s inaugural recipient of the California Exemplary Districts honor—the only such awardee in the county.
  • One-third of the District’s campuses were recognized as California Honor Roll schools by the Educational Results Partnership (ERP) and the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE).
  • CVESD successfully modernized school facilities and the building of its newest school, on-time and on-budget.
  • Montgomery Elementary was selected to be part of a nationally recognized arts network: for National Arts Program: Turnaround Arts: California
  • CVESD was recently named as “Best Community” in the arts.

I believe on the potential of all students and the importance of providing them with opportunities.  I support academic rigor, but I believe it is equally important to provide opportunities for students to expand their horizons, develop their individual talents, think critically, and become life-long learners.
